Strictly For The Hood - What Does Being White Mean - Daily Piff

A reader wanted my opinion on what I consider "being white." Here is the actual question:

"What do you consider being white? What I mean by that is I skateboard, listen to rock music and like white girls. Been that way since high school and people call me a "white boy" and "oreo" but I tell them I'm not trying to be white, I just like the things that I like. I still like rap. I can play basketball but I don't really mess with black girls unless she like a so called "oreo" like me. So what do you think? Am I a white boy? What's your opinion?"

Yes you are a whiteboy. Nothing wrong with that. You are mulatto anyway so what's the issue? You are a "oreo." I am assuming that your mother is white and your father is black. I've learned that mulattos go either way. Either they are going to be more black or they are going to be more on the white side. In my opinion, you are more on the white side. I think the area where you grow up and schools you go to plays a big part in what you like and dislike when it comes to girls and hobbies. You probably grew up in an area where there are more whites than blacks and on top of that your mother is white and it seems like most of your friends are white. Even though you didn't specifically say that, I am just assuming. My opinion? Stop worrying about it n*gga. Just be ya self. Mulattos be having serious complexes about sh*t like this and they let that sh*t get into their head and infect they brain. My father told me that mulatto people are some of the most confused people you will ever meet. As I get older I see what he is talking about. This question is a perfect example of what he is talking about. Just live ya life yo. Stop worrying about whether you are being black enough or if you are being too white. You are MIXED! That means you are going to have a little bit of both in you. Just be real. The one thing I don't like about some mulatto people is that they act white when around white people and act black around black people instead of just being who they are 100% of the time.

Afterhours Smile (Hollywood, FL): The first time Ive ever heard the term oreo was in the 3rd grade. I was called that by the only white boy I knew in school. And I mean blonde hair blue eyed whiteboy. He told me that the way I was speaking I was trying to be white. I didnt even know what he was talking about but I cussed him properly for being rude but I still didnt get it.
In middle school is when I finally got the hint. I had black friends, but most of them were hispanic and thats been my path since then.
Ive always been around my people but I still to this day get called "the girl that sounds white". I dont get it but I do me regardless. Fuck what they gotta say cuz they dont live theyre life for u

There is nothing more the world can say other than that, you like what you like!!...but i noticed you said you don't really mess with black girls unless they into a mixed dude...it sounds to me that you think because your are mixed that there is very a small amount of black girls that are into you, that alone tells me that you are already considering peoples thoughts N not being yourself ( how do you know that ) you can't read minds.... just because you like rock music or white girls don't mean black girls hate you...I like some of the things you like N I'm not about to change for nobody.
I grew up with my mom, who is an English woman, most of my family are English and I travel to london every year, I have a wide range of friends, just because I like to know about different cultures....I have an English accent, I listen to rock sometimes, I am attracted to white dudes...And so on! but people think I'm trying to act white, I personally don't think there is such a thing as acting white...people like what they like!! I can't please everybody, so I just do me..if they don't like, then that's their fucking problem because I'm doing what makes me happy, I live how I choose too N you should do the same.

This seems to be more of a self esteem question than a "acting white" question. Anything thats been going on since high school shouldn't still be bothering you. By now you should be like "Fuck it" when you hear people talk about the way you act. But the reason I said this was a self esteem question though is because you admitted to being what people are calling you. Your words almost seem like their are people who are close to you like friends or family that don't accept you "acting white", and thats the real reason it bothers you. Yet, thats just an assumption and don't want to put words in your mouths. Bottom line is just to be comfortable in your own skin. You letting shit thats been going on since high school fuck with you, I mean you grown now. Be your own man, be your self.
